On 2-3 June 2016, CDKL5 UK and the other European CDKL5 Associations will be hosting the 3rd European CDKL5 Research Conference at St John's Hotel in Solihull, Birmingham, UK. This conference has in previous years been in Bologna, Italy, and was started by the Italian CDKL5 Association. The conference is aimed at families, medical clinicians, and scientific researchers working in the field of CDKL5 research or treating patients.
We are excited that CDKL5 research in Europe has seen exponential growth in recent years, and we are pleased that many of these researchers will be attending and presenting at the conference. You can look forward to presentations on :
- basic science looking at the function of the gene
- how the protein replacement therapy project is progressing
- the new gene therapy project being conducted in London
- drug repositioning - this means drugs already approved for other conditions which may have a positive impact on some of the symptoms that CDKL5 patients experience.
In addition to the scientific presentations, there will also be presentations on subjects such as music therapy, intensive interaction, physiotherapy and more. The conference programme will be designed to also allow for valuable networking opportunities for all attendees to share their experiences and understanding in this fast-developing field.

We have negotiated preferential accommodation rates for families wishing to stay at the conference venue, and we are working to negotiate further subsidy through charitable funding which we hope to be able to announce in due course.
